Now I know my ABCs Google Instant Search Demonstration Video

This is a more fun video that is played to the “Now I know my ABCs” song while the real-time results of showing going through the alphabet shows how well (and poorly) the matching works at times.

For your own experiment you can go to Google at the new interface link if you dont have it by default in your area:

http://www.google.com/webhp?sclient=psy

And go through the alphabet one character at a time. It is quite good an letters like “C” bring up craigslist which is fairly accurate for me and kinda scary at the same time.

Google Instant Search Consumer Focus Group Video

Here is a video of some consumer focus group tests that Google did on the new Instant Search interface:

The girl in the green shirt in this video says she was scanning with her eyes as she types . I think this will be how many people use this and will make having a high Search Engine Optimization ranking more important than ever. The real estate “above the fold” will be the new playground for serious SEOs.

Introduction of Google Instant Search Video with Jon Effrat

This is one of the 4 Google Instant Search videos released on Launch Day September 8th, 2010. This is one of the one of the better explanations.

This gentleman, Jonathan Effrat is a Product Manager at Google. His voice is very soothing. He could probably do voiceovers if that Google gig ever gets boring.

Google Instant Search Videos for Launch Day April 8th 2010

So far on Google Instant Search Launch day there have been 4 small videos, and a long taping of the entire Press Conference released officially from Google.

1) An overview and Introduction Video

2) A Consumer Focus Group Talking about the new Instant Search

3) Now I know my ABC demonstration to music.

4) Complete Instant Search Product Launch Video (1.5 Hours Long)

5) Bob Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues Lyrics Demonstration

Finally is the above video with Bob Dylan with the music from Subterranean Homesick Blues and showing how if you type parts of the songs lyrics you have results will be shown below in real-time. Great way to find song lyrics. This search engine change could theoretically change how people look for data.

Maybe people will just go to Instant Search and start typing to brainstorm.

Above they type the lyrics and the interface does a pretty good job of guessing what the user wants and at any point you can select a query that is suggested or just click a Search Engine Result to go to it.

Will Google Instant Search change the SEO Rankings?

Google Instant Search is a revolutionary way Google is displaying results that change real time as people type a longer search term. People are already wondering if this new search portal is showing new rankings are altering the Google Algorithm.

Googles official answer is:

No, this change does not impact the ranking of search results.

And what this means is that people will see results below the search box as they type their query. But the results will be exactly the same as if the person was using the classic Google search and hit enter at that point in their search.

But what I think might happen is that the new Google Instant Search is so different to how people are used to searching, that it will start to affect what people search for. They can see realtime what one word extra or less will affect the SEO results. And if they pause for 3 seconds or more it will show new Google Adwords advertisements.

This almost to me seems like it might train people to be better searchers. Google is saying that people will save 2 to 5 seconds on the average search but I think it will also change what keywords are more or less popular. There is already debate on whether this will increase or decrease long tail traffic on longer keywords. Some are even going so far as to say this is the end of SEO or Search Engine Optimization. I think this is very unlikely, as like Google is saying at least for now the rankings are not changing.

It will over time make people more likely to keep changing their search query to get better results and make being at the top with an appealing Title and Description tag even more important.

I think it is likely to make the top 3 or 4 spots for search on Google even more competitive. It used to be that being on the first page was enough for a fair amount of traffic. I think it is likely that searchers will just keep refining their search term until they see a good result at the top of the rankings.

This will change which terms are most popular, what keywords more content writers focus on, and will probably work into changing which sites rank high and will hurt pages that were ranking on the bottom of page one or even the second page.
